4. K2 Skate Men’s Mod 110 Inline Skate

Some would say that K2’s speed lacing system has revolutionized modern skates. Simply fasten the straps and tug on the lace to tighten the skate to your foot. No lacing up or ratcheting a buckle necessary, and it’s much easier to put on and take off than your average pair of rollerblades. K2’s skates also include an insert for added comfort and protection, and at 110mm, the wheels are zippy and responsive. The cuff is flexible yet supportive, as well, helping create a fit that feels natural. If you’re an experienced skater looking to upgrade, consider the Mod 110.

With the Macroblade 80, you can upgrade the wheels and bearings as your need for speed increases, which is somewhat unique with beginner-friendly rollerblades.

Tips for the perfect fit

  • It must be tight. But not too tight. Much like Goldilock’s porridge, it must be just right. You want to have room to wiggle your toes and move, but your foot should still be securely in place. Your best bet is to try the rollerblades on at the store, but if you must buy online, be sure to refer to that brand’s size chart and only purchase from reputable retailers with a good exchange policy. If possible, you could even try a few pairs of rollerblades at the store to get a feel for the sizing and what you are looking for before making your eventual purchase online.

  • Wear your socks to try the skates on. If you are trying the skates on in person, wear the socks you normally would rollerblade to the fitting. Rollerblade socks are usually made from a material that is thick, and sometimes they even have additional padding. This helps keep your foot comfortable and supported as you skate, but it can also mean that your sock takes up a little extra space inside the rollerblade’s boot. If you try your rollerblades on with a pair of thin socks you may find that they don’t fit as well when it actually comes time to use them.

  • Don’t be distracted by appearances. The best-fitting roller skate is the best skate for you, regardless of how it looks. Try not to get too caught up in different colors and designs– a pair of rollerblades may look great, but if it’s not comfortable, it’s probably not going to provide for an enjoyable skating experience. Besides, you will hardly notice the look of your skates as you’re actually using them.
